Royal Rummy: A Game Fit for Royalty (and You!)
Royal Rummy, also known as Royal Gin Rummy, takes the classic card game we all know and love and adds a touch of, well, royalty! Here’s the rundown:
The Basics:
- Players: 2 players
- Deck: Standard 52-card deck
- Goal: Be the first to form all your cards into melds (sets and runs) and go out.
Melds:
- Sets: Three or four cards of the same rank (e.g., 7♥ 7♦ 7♠)
- Runs: Three or more cards in sequence, all of the same suit (e.g., 5♣ 6♣ 7♣)
Gameplay:
- Dealing: Each player is dealt 10 cards. The remaining cards form the stock pile, and the top card is turned face up to start the discard pile.
- Your Turn: You can either pick up the top card from the stock pile or the top card from the discard pile.
- Melding: If you can form melds with your cards, you can lay them down on the table face up.
- Discarding: You must discard one card from your hand onto the discard pile, ending your turn.
- Going Out: To go out, you must meld all your cards and have no cards left in your hand. You can go out by melding all your cards at once or by adding the last card in your hand to an existing meld on the table (yours or your opponent’s).
The Royal Twist:
Here’s where Royal Rummy gets its crown:
- Royal Ending: To win a game, you MUST go out with a valid meld. You cannot simply discard your last card.
